公開された新情報は、石版探しが楽になる便利機能について。「ドラゴンクエストVII」では、石版探しの便利機能として、石版案内人が教えてくれるヒント「導きの声」と、石版が近くにあると反応する「石版レーダー」の2つの新機能が搭載されている。

石版案内人
石版探しのサポート役。石版の世界へ旅立つ拠点となる「復活の間」の管理人でもある。外見は、甲殻に覆われた体や羽を持つちょっと不思議な姿の妖精。素性は一切不明だが、年齢は数百才という。
主人公たちを“選ばれし者”と呼び、集めた石版を管理してくれたり、まだ見つけていない石版のヒントを教えてくれるなど石版探しのサポートをしてくれる。
導きの声
石版案内人が教えてくれるヒント。石版の場所がだいたい把握できる。石版を探したい時は、まず石版案内人に話しかけるといいだろう。
